UPDATE.
Ian started 1st grade last week. He loves it. He did not have anyone from last year in his class this year. We approach it like "now you can meet new friends" He seems to be adjusting well. He has grumbled a few times about having to get up so early EVERY day now. Anna will start preschool on September 14 and was so mad (yeah Anna mad) that she didn't get to go with Ian. I do have pictures and will get them up soon.
I have started my fund raising for TNT. I went to a few businesses in town yesterday and really got no where. Sorta a bummer but not giving up. I have my letter done and plan on sending them out this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed and if anyone would like to stuff envelopes call me up - LOL. My website for donations is listed at the end so check it out please. Pass it on to anyone you can think of. People in your office friends and family. Every little bit helps. I have had a handful of people ask me about my bracelet I wear with my hero's name on it. Great conversation starter.
Ian has started football as well. Only practices so far. His two friends, Krue and Bray, are playing this year and so he is living it up. So aggressive. Love it. He is also in training for his kids marathon. He can run a mile and a half without stopping. He meets with a coach and team on Saturday mornings to run a mile. He kicks butt. I think this is my fault - I told him he was not a wimp and he should never walk. WHAT!!?? Am I wrong. Shane told me that I could not run him skinny (don't think I am responsible for this) because it is football season and that he can run now as long as I know he will play football later. Whatever Shane. Ian is my runner.
Anna is looking forward to Dance. Ashlie has been talking to her about this Pom Pom class she is teaching and would love to have Anna in. Lord have mercy. I know I know. There is nothing wrong with it right. UGH. She also wants to continue in Ballet and Tap this year. This child is going to kill me on costumes. She is very concerned about getting a new dress this year. Does not want the same one as last recital. Ha. and so it begins. THANK YOU ASHLIE.
My running will begin soon. Ian is in two sports and Anna in more than one dance class. Then you throw in homework, school, dinner, and baths all before 8:00 bedtime. YIKES. Hope it all works out.
I will get some new pix up for you all. feels good to be back. Here is my site for TNT. Donate Donate Donate.
Love you guys.

Energy 2 Action Duathlon

During my training for Boston I began to have some issues with my foot. I think all the pounding of long runs over the past couple of years may be catching up to me. I was able to make some changes and run Boston without a problem - Thanks to my chiropractic team - LOL. Dr. Heath told me after this marathon I should consider some other sports with less pounding. This is very sad for me because I LOVE to run! So I considered my options and thought I would try a Triathlon - I began speaking to people I know who do them to get the scoop and see what I need to do.

One of the guys I talked to is on a cycling team along with his wife and they invited me to join them in a Duathlon this past weekend. I had three weeks to prepare. This race was a 2 mile run - 16 mile bike - 2 mile run. I borrowed Erin's bike (Thanks so much) and started "training." I don't think I am real fast on the bike and it took some getting used to. Adam and Darlene were nice enough to take me out a few days before and "show me the ropes." All this nonsense about drafting and times and speed. I began to wonder if I knew what I was doing.

Race day came and I surprised myself - and them I think. I ran my first 2 in 14:23 (7:12 mile pace) my bike took me 59:28 (16.3 MPH average) and then my second run was 15:06 (7:33 pace) the two transitions took about 1 1/2 minutes. I finished 56 overall (out of 95) 11th for girls and 2nd in my age group. Not too shabby. I was not sure the run would be that fast since I have been training long and slow for so long. My bike....well lets just say I have the bug and want to better my times.

Here is a picture Darlene took of me finishing the race. Sorry this is all I have. I will take more next time - yes there will be a next time.

Boston Marathon 2009

After two years of planning and wondering (with Shane's new job) if we'd be able to go....we went and had a blast. I qualified to run Boston in October of 2007 and you have two years to run on that qualification. Kim and Nic went with us and it was a great time - after 13 hours in a car you learn things you never knew.

We left Friday night and drove to New York and stayed for the night. I can say that Shane and I have never been to New York before. "Up state" New York was not what we expected....much like here. We finished our drive on Saturday and then went out to discover Boston.

(a church in the middle of the busy city)

(Downtown - this is a list of all the winners of the Boston Marathon)

The hotel bar tender gave us some spots to hit while we were out. First we went to the Beantown pub. This little pub was across the street from where Samuel Adams is buried...so we had a Sam Adams there. They also have the best chicken fingers with a honey mustard sauce - so our bar tender said. They were great. I hate mustard but this was good. Our waitress there has the thickest accent - I wanted to take her home. From there we went to Kensale - another Irish pub for dinner. It was neat and we had fun there. I didn't really want to take my camera out so we took Kim's. She has these pictures. I need to get them from her.

Sunday morning we got up early so that I could get to the expo and pick up my number. IT WAS A ZOO!!! It took us all day. I have never seen that many people. I got my "Official" Boston jacket after waiting in line for ever. We tried to figure out the subway system and I think this was enough to send Shane over the edge. He remained calm and we figured it out later.

(We found the finish line and had to stop and pose)

We had to get a Celtics sweatshirt for Shane's boss and were told to go to the Pro Shop at the Garden. We were instructed to take the subway this many stops inbound. This was a first for us all but it was fairly easy. We got to the Garden and found the perfect shirt. While we were there his boss asked if we could get his wife a Boston Marathon tank top. This meant we had to go all the way back to the crowed expo. So Nic and Kim went to China Town while Shane and I headed back to the expo. It was not bad at this time and there were tons of sales since it was the last hour/day for the expo.

(the Garden)

Monday was the race. I had to get on the bus to go to the start at 6:30 a.m. My race did not start until 10:30 a.m. I would say my stay in Athletes Village consisted of me waiting in line for the wonderful port-a-pots. Yeah three hours. I went once and then got right back in line thinking I would have to go again by the time I got there...I did. For the start you walk about a half mile down the road and then try to get in your corral. By the time we got to the start we had to sprint through yards just to get to our spots in time. It was already packed with fans and runners.

(waiting on the bus to Athlete's Village in the morning - don't I look excited.)

The race started and I picked up on a few things very quickly. One: the hills were much bigger than what I anticipated. Two: the fans were there to have fun to. They lined the street the entire 26 miles just wanting to give you high fives and encouragement. Three: the runners were there to have fun to. Runners were taking pictures, stopping to talk with family and some were dressed a little crazy. There was Abe Lincoln, a man in a pink body suit and tutu and a wand. My sister said she saw a guy in his 70's or so with "Don't pass this I'm not in your age group" wrote on the back. Four: This was going to be the biggest race of my life.

I saw the train that my fans had to be on leaving the station as I passed by there....didn't see them. I did see them at 15 miles and was so happy to do so. We talked for a while then I ran off to see them at the finish. I did not even realize I was on "heartbreak hill" until I was up it. It was tough but it was done before I knew it. I continued to look for my fans but didn't see them. I finished in 4:04 which is my slowest marathon yet. Yes I immediately wanted a "do over." Maybe in a few years when I am not broke - LOL.

(Right after the race. Don't squeeze too much, I gotta go.....)

It was a great trip. Boston is a great city. There were some things we didn't get to do and some we did. I did have a beer at the bar in Cheer's. We wanted to yell NORM at the next guy to walk in but thought better of it. There was a ton going on in Boston that weekend - the Celtics were home, the Bruins were home and Red Socks were home - Plus the marathon. It was busy.

I am excited about the possibility of going back some day - if I qualify.

(the welcoming home committee)

While we were walking past Emerson College one day, Shane told us to stop. As we stood there, the players from the Chicago Bulls team came walking out. I got a picture of their backs mostly cause we didn't want to be "pushy fans". You may recognize the TALL one as Noah.

To see race pictures, you can go to www.marathonfoto.com Pick the 2009 Boston Marathon as your event. It will then ask you to put in my last name and bib number: Heath 15398

Keep in mind they are not pretty

Happy Valentines Day

Our Valentines Day was very special as always. I feel very loved in my home and hope the others do as well. The Friday before V-day Ian and I got to go on a date and then to the "LITTLE GENTLEMAN'S" dance. He took me to BWW's (his favorite) where we had the best chili con caso dip with wings. We played a game called shark attack the whole time which is very similar to hang man. Then it was off to the dance. We had a blast dancing and playing the games they had. The next night Anna and Shane got to dinner and the "LITTLE PRINCESS" dance. Anna picked out her red dress to wear and her tiara because it was a princess dress after all. She wanted to have her hair put in curlers and then the tiara. I could tell while doing her hair she was sleepy but kept going. When she was all ready and looked sweet as could be she began crying that she wanted to go home (before even leaving) She cried all the way to the car and once in her seat. I encouraged Dad by saying "you know as soon as you leave she'll be fine." She was fine - a minute after leaving Shane called to tell me she was sleeping. He woke her up to go to dinner at Applebee's where she cried the entire time. He thought he would run to the dance for their picture and bring her home (scrapbooking crazy wife makes sure he gets pictures - He's learning). Well as soon as she walked in the door she was on the dance floor cutting a rug as usual. She had a blast and won a little teddy bear for being one of the cutest girls there. I think Shane had fun to.

The next Friday night Shane and I went out "ALONE" and it was a good time to. We don't get too much time alone these days so every little bit is great. We went to BWW's as well and then hit the theater for a nice romantic movie - Friday the 13th. It was great. He also had flowers delivered to me at work which is always a plus. Saturday night we then went to a party at his aunt and uncles for those who could not get reservations. It was a kid friendly affair that turned out to be a ton of fun. It was a great idea.

Anna's 3rd Birthday.

For Anna's 3rd I decided that I was not going to spend hundreds of dollars on her photo.....I could do it myself. And that is just what we did. My friend Kelly and I took princess Anna to the site with three dresses in tow. She did AWESOME. We had guessed about 30 minutes tops but she lasted an entire 2 hours. Changing into different dresses, posing and smiling like she was a real princess. We ended up taking over 500 pictures....I know a bit much, but we were having fun. Problem now is sorting through them and picking a few. So far here are a few of my favorites:

Needless to say - I think we got a few good shots. Oh and if I can convince my husband, I will be quitting my day job.
